I was contacted this evening to say I could submit my forms on-line so I've now submitted them. I suppose they will now be doing a background check to complete formalities before they make a decision. I have to admit that part of my motives are somewhat selfish as they train their volunteers and while I learn how to help others I am also learning how to help my wife - but I suppose that's ok as she is the class of person they are supposed to help.

Why is that selfish. People asking for advice on it would get it from someone who is in a similar position. The best placed to give any advice, as opposed to reading about it, then telling them.

I suppose I'm just doubting everything I do these last few days as Mrs B has had a little worsening of her confusion with an associated dip in her mood this last week so I can't seem to do anything right for her at the moment and I'm floundering a bit. A person with dementia can be hard to deal with as their diminished cognitive ability means that it's nigh impossible to reason with them - especially when they think they will cheer up if we start doing things she did in her childhood and doesn't understand why she is no longer capable of doing them!!!

I get it the other way round, at times. The brain is asking, the body can't respond as I want it to.

I find it as annoying as hell. Mine is shortlived spells though.

It's a bit of a Greek chant that I was challenged to learn a couple of years back and I've been singing on a regular basis since. It's got lines like

"In this rational world, 5 metres high I carve the initials
of name, blood and race on ancient walls
and with a Greek theme
I will write my world prophecies with a nail"*

and it goes down very well every time I sing it.
(* my own translation so may not be 100%)
