They say that in Wales all the time....Can't you just say, 'We're going to have lamb tonight, nip out and get a sheep...'
I thought you lived in Bolton?I live in hope.
In reality but not in my dreams.I thought you lived in Bolton?
I will join you with a nice glass of red. cheers (couldn't find a red wine smiley so lager will have to do)Good news then, I've just opened a bottle of Guinness and I'll toast your move with it.
Will this put you nearer to the hospital as well?
Is that 3.5kg of bodyweight, how does he replace that each time?I will join you with a nice glass of red. cheers (couldn't find a red wine smiley so lager will have to do)
The hospital is about 2.5 miles so it will be an easy spin for Hubster, there and back again, either side of dialysis. Much better than the current 8. Getting there is not a problem, it's just that he is so wiped out after that causes the issues. He loses somewhere in the region of 3.5kg each time and it's not very good for the energy levels. When he gets home he tends to have an hour or so of sleep to recharge his batteries, so to speak.
Because Hubster no longer pees (kidneys are dead, hence the dialysis) the weight is fluid that is taken off. He's only allowed 650ml of fluid a day but there is fluid in food too. The fluid allowed includes gravy, custard, pasta and rice etc so he has to measure everything. Rather than drinking a lot Hubster tends to suck an ice cube as it's only 15ml each time and the ice lasts so much longer, and is more refreshing than 15ml of water. Is that 3.5kg of bodyweight, how does he replace that each time?
I remember you saying about the 650 limit now.Because Hubster no longer pees (kidneys are dead, hence the dialysis) the weight is fluid that is taken off. There is fluid in vegetables so only allowed 3 a day, fluid in meat, fluid in fruit. As well as the fluid intake he has to really monitor his potassium and phosphate levels. On the upside, he is legally given EPO every week so his climbing has improved.
SithiNos da all!
It's harder for him in the summer as he gets so thirsty. The other evening he went mad and had a pint of beer over the course of an evening. Very naughty but he was spectacularly good all yesterday and only sucked small ice-cubes - 10ml ones. He said that the beer was awesome. Luckily he doesn't suffer from fluid retention, swollen legs and ankles, which is a really really common side effect. The consultants are really impressed that he doesn't and think that the cycling is really helping him. They encourage him to do more but his energy levels are down in the hotter weather, as you can imagine.I remember you saying about the 650 limit now.
Does the sweating from cycling help with getting rid of excess fluid without making him so thirsty that it has a negative effect? It's harder for him in the summer as he gets so thirsty. His consultant reckons that you don't sweat enough to warrant any extra fluid. Hubster can be a bit naughty and some days has a whole litre. I think that when he was on a litre a day he drank about 1.2 litres which is why they dropped his fluid limit and then knew that he'd drink a litre which is in their ballpark. If he regularly drinks too much it puts pressure on his heart and if he does it too often it could well kill him. He's careful! He does have bad days though.Does the sweating from cycling help with getting rid of excess fluid without making him so thirsty that it has a negative effect?
It's no wonder he gets down with all that going on.His consultant reckons that you don't sweat enough to warrant any extra fluid. Hubster can be a bit naughty and some days has a whole litre.
