We had gone the same way, clubs signing mediocre foreign players when I'm sure they would have got mileage out of some local lad, the Bigot brothers have enticed some decent players over the years but good money rather than quality football brought them here. Inverness is an excellent area to stay and if you are used to SE house prices and cost of living, you could buy a castle for the price of a London flat and live comfortable BUT we have the midge which makes mosquitos look tame..
the EPL promotes itself as the best league in the world with players wanting to play there...it's the money they are throwing about...
I'm pretty up on continental football (just don't ask me about Scottish football) and I see virtual unknowns getting bought to play in the EPL for funny money.
Ross McCormack who moved from Leeds got a free out of Ibrox and is now £11 million?
Its a funny old game..
My mate had been going to Inverness for years and loved the place, so managed to get a driving job with Scotrail at Inverness and loves it. He reckons the midges aren't a problem in the town so never seems to mention them.
As for the prem league its a joke, to many very average players getting silly money. There are a few quality players that deserve to be here and do light the league up, but there are some players that just get here on something like a French passport but are a joke. The problem gets worse when the lower league clubs import foreign players. There must be lads that aren't good enough for the prem clubs but would be good enough for the lower league clubs, but no they have foreign players instead.
Years ago the key players of a lot of the top English were Scots, but now there are hardly any Scottish players in the premier league. Again if Scottish lads aren't playing at the highest level its is going to harm your national team. I have listened to the names of some of the players on sportscene and a lot of them are certainly not Scottish.
The best players are to be found in Spain and our leagues failings are often shown when playing Spanish clubs. Germany seems to be a place where a lot of the players are actually German and we know the seem to do rather well in major competitions.
