Glasgow, Edinburgh I'd been to many a time by then but West Bromwich was a massive culture shock to me...

I stopped off quite a few year ago to pick up some fishing stuff in an old industrial estate in Walsall (or near there)...a frightening place (and I've been in some dodgy places in Glasgow and Paisley)

To be fair @Bobby Mhor all big cities have areas where the normal person just would not want to go. Parts of Brum and the West Mids have some scary parts as does Glasgow, London, Manchester and as you say Paisley which would be Greater Glasgow the same as the West Mids umbrella.
Obviously at the time you went to see Morton play West Bromwich and particularly the ground which is on the other side of the M5 to West Brom town centre borders on Handsworth.
As you may well know Handsworth in the late 60's and 70's was the home to a massive West Indian population and if you liked music do you remember a raggae band called Steel Pulse from Handsworth.
Its changed in Handsworth now there are a lot of eastern europeans and Asians. There are numerous mosques and temples there now.

I'm not normal...I'm the Mhor..
I wandered about that day and it would be Handsworth I would have ended up in...
For some strange reason we arrived outside the ground just before midday for a night game..

My grandparents lived in Handsworth, on Hampstead road, just up from the park.

I seem to remember a similar story about Glasgow Rangers fans arriving in Brum on a Friday night for a game on the Saturday in 1976. That game was abandoned after some awful scenes during the match
