Its done when using the largest or smallest at the same time, on the front & rear. Largest chainwheel and largest on the freewheel for example. How do I do that or don't do that as the case may be?

If on the outer chainring avoid using the inner on the rear. If on the inner chainring avoid using the outer on the rear.So. If I'm in the highest ring I should try to avoid using the highest gear? And if on the lowest ring avoid the lowest gear?
Ah. Got It.If on the outer chainring avoid using the inner on the rear. If on the inner chainring avoid using the outer on the rear.

Doesn't sound right. What Classic means is the largest size rings not the highest geared. So if you were in the highest gear (big ring) at the front you wouldn't use the lowest geared (largest size) sprocket on the back and if on the lowest gear (small ring) at the front you shouldn't use the highest (smallest sprockets) at the rear.So let me get this right. If I am using the middle ring and I'm in the highest gear, I should not shift up Into the highest ring. I should change to a lower gear, then change to the highest ring. Is that right?
Morgen, meine Damen und Herren
Morning everyone, I was up at 5am to get to Abertawe for 8.30 this morning. I've now got my little travel kettle out so I can have a cup of tea..

Bit far to travel when nature calls! Nice to see you have pre-planned though.
