I think there would be more side effects if I gave it up, IE headaches because of withdrawal from the caffeine

Like many drugs it's best to wean yourself off caffeine. However, reduction may be better than full withdrawal. I'm on decaff tea from 12 noon every day now since last week.

A switch to de-caff for 1/2 of the cups is suggested.

I gave up smoking 2 years ago just about. Cigs were about £5.60. Jar of coffee about £5.00. The cigs would last 1 day. The coffee would last 2 weeks probably.

American State Governments started taxing them in the 1980's, coinciding with my case of the influenza/pneumonia. Took me two weeks to get back on my feet. I figured I'd quit smoking, so I'll just stay quit. Thirty some years later, I'm still quit, and the taxes just keep going up.
