I didn't hear the flood siren here, but AFAIK it isn't flooded or in danger of it. (I haven't been down to the town centre today, where any flooding occurs.)
So much for avoiding walking in the rain ... My walking partner rang just after my previous post and persuaded me to take advantage of a brief lull in the bad weather and walk up to Heptonstall with her. We called in at the cafe there and dark clouds rolled over as we supped our coffees. When we left, the wind picked up and we started getting battered by hail, as forecast, only an hour late.
My pal went to work and I squelched my way back down the hill in premature darkness. By the time I got home, the storm had blown over and it was getting lighter again, even though it was now sunset time!
I have a photo of me on my phone looking like a drowned rat, but I think the water must have got in somewhere because I am struggling to get the USB connection to my laptop to work. If the phone recovers when it dries out, I'll attach a picture to this post later.
The traffic lights on Lee Wood Rd are working again. It looks like they work off large batteries so someone must have been up and changed or charged them.
