She made sure that he didn't have a pen to scribble down an accusatory note, but she made the mistake of leaving a copy of the script of her latest play in the safe with him, the title page of which read as "The Night I Was Murdered" by [Author's Name]. In his dying moments, he used a burnt match to scrub out the words "The Night" and hid the note. Columbo found it and it now read "I Was Murdered" by [Author's Name]!
