I was always a bit of a Scrooge, but after spending 24 hours at my dying mum's bedside from noon on Christmas Eve to noon on Christmas Day 2010, I really can't make a fuss about it at all now.

I've just had a flashback to a group of young nurses coming in to the ward wearing Santa hats and singing lovely Christmas carols for the patients. It reduced me to a sobbing heap at the time ...

Er (cough) ... Bah, humbug!

I'd like to put a like to that Colin, but I feel it would be inappropriate.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

I'm sorry. I hate hospitals as well. I remember when my dad died in hospital in Birmingham. Theres my dad dying and all around are people going about theyr'e business and lives as if nothing is wrong. I have every intention of making sure I do not die in one of those places.
I gave it a like, but only because it takes courage to say something like that in public.

I didn't make it down for my dad. He had been ill for months and I had been to visit as often as I could, but he died shortly after I came back up north.

I really want to go a bit quicker than both of my parents who had 6 pretty bad months each at the end of their lives. Actually, I nearly managed it last year, only about 25-30 years too soon!

I 'liked' your post too, for the right reasons.

Well Gents. There are just the three of us now. And it is time for me to take myself off to bed. Sleep tight. See you tomorrow.

Well, I've run out of parents to worry about but I still have sisters and friends on the list!

I'll see the remaining family some time over Christmas and it will be nice, but my reaction is the opposite to theirs. I want it to be quiet and they kind of overcompensate to try and erase the memory of 'that awful one'.
