Shocking stuff. Barbed wire is vicious stuff. He's lucky to not have had serious injuries to his male parts. A very nasty accident that could have been truly horrendous beyond words.

Tough guy indeed.

I really felt for him after the race  he was so emotional.
I think he said he needed 30 stitches  ...but was still big enough not to spare a moment for the driver who probably felt awful about it, as he said, he'll never have done that deliberately. I think he said to the other rider just after the incident...be happy we're still alive after that.

Bloody stupid actions of the driver all the same  just goes to show the outcome of a split second decision.

It wasn't a decision; there was no intellectual process, he just reacted instinctively. His error was that he was taken unawares by the tree and he hadn't planned ahead to avoid the need for that evasive swerve.

I didn't bother watching the rest day ITV show. Has that been com action against the driver?

Telegraph reports this morning that Sky are considering suing the car driver, and the police are investigating. Be interested to see where this one ends up.

Telegraph reports this morning that Sky are considering suing the car driver

I think that's a classic case of miss-reporting, or of a reporter putting words into Brailsford's mouth! I think what Brailsford said was that they are waiting for the police reports and lawyers advice to see what options are open to them, for Flecha as an individual and for Sky as a team. One of those options might be suing, or it might not.

Compare this to the reaction of Hoogerland and Vacansoleil...

Despite the nature of the accident and his injuries, Hoogerland and his Vacansoleil team have confirmed that they will not take legal action against the driver or the Tour de France. "They have apologized and we’ve accepted their apology. We’re not looking for a scapegoat. They went too far and they know that,” team manager Daan Luijkx said according to De Telegraaf.

I think you're absolutely right.... but when did the media let the facts get in the way of a good headline!!

As has been said in lots of places already, Hoogerland definitely takes the award for gentleman of the year. Unbelievably forgiving and a truly worthy human for his handling of the situation.

For those of us, like me, who did not see his interview.

And hoogerland starts today's stage. For him to even finish the stage was amazing, but to carry on says alot about his strength and character. What a guy.

Yes looking at the footage and the photo's you wonder how he finished the stage on Sunday. Those tears to his skin must be pretty deep ..... it's got to hurt just to climb on his bike, let alone ride it on a TDF stage. All credit to the bloke; very unlikely as it is (gross understatement at that!), hope he hangs on to that polka dot jersey; he certainly deserves a lot of credit.

Yes, one very tough guy. I know I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to blood, but just watching him riding on with blood running out from under the dressings was making me queasy.
