Now you are lying again.

Cheapy screw on's - hammer them enough they will fail.

It can be winter riding, wet riding, it can be lengthy use, it can 900 miles in a short period, it can be pushing really big gears if you are a bit of a monster - his hasn't failed yet but it's on it's way.

Simply screwing it back on again isn't going to remove the play, it's already wellied on like buggery from being ridden so I suggest you wind your neck in.

Well done for lying and trying to make another knowledge thread into a flame war.
OMH you do not like to be told you are wrong do you. Oh well I guess we must bow down to the masterengineer and expect any machine with a 7 speed free wheel to be a toy. I guess that makes those Dawes leisure bikes then?

After a good chain/freewheel scrubbing and a regreasing of the axle and bearings the noise is still there, but much quieter and less frequent - it's proper test will be tonight's post-work 25m circuit.
Still lacking the necessary tool to have the freewheel off, I'll have a go at drizzle some oil (with the bike on its side) onto it and see if some will work through the seals and lube the bearings inside (idea taken from here).
