People keep talking about this day when you will forget and fall. This day nearly 1 year on has not happened to me. I have forgot but never fell. A good tip is to unclip early.
I agree, it wasn't in my case about forgetting just a traffic situation, and first thing in the morning, left leg was free bike fell to the right, road camber whatever, I just got it wrong.
Mine are size 8 (Lidl's). What does that say about me?
I am sure a size 8 is fine, gf is a size 5, mind you she doesn't cycle

I'm going to be taking the clipless plunge in the next few weeks once I get round to buying the pedals. I know I'll end up on the floor more than once as I'm very accident prone  Guess I'll have to buy a roll of bubble wrap to go with those pedals!

Evans have a sale on at the minute which is what prompted me to go for it.

I took the plunge with clipless yesterday. I got a set of Shimano A530s from eBay and fitted them on my Crossfire. I certainly felt a difference with them going up hills - I felt I had more power and it was quite a nice feeling being so "attached" to the bike. However....

... I forgot I had the buggers when I pulled in home and promptly keeled over and hit the tarmac. And the wall. I smacked my shoulder pretty bad and it's piggin sore today, to the point where lifting anything is bloody agony. Brufen it is if it's like that tomorrow cos I NEED to get out on the bike again!

I've got the pedals, shimano PD-M785 but not had a chance to go to try a pair of shoes on yet. Was looking (on line) at Mavic Pulse, anyone have a pair or know what they're like?

After weeks of umming and ahing and a couple of guys at work switching to SPDs, I got myself some Shimano pedals (off road type jobbies) and Bontrager shoes from my LBS yesterday and I'm pretty impressed so far. I have only done about 20 miles so far but I don't have any aches or pains and (touch wood) haven't forgot to unclip my left foot at junctions yet. I'm unclipping nice and early at the moment.

84 quid all in they cost me which I thought was a decent price, and the guy at the LBS set them up for me and came outside and gave me some instruction in the pouring rain as I rode up and down the wee cul-de-sac next to the shop getting familiar with them.

Of course, I mean sometimes people whack them on and hope they'll adjust to it, a bit like a bad saddle or reaching too far.

When I got mine, I headed out for an exploratory 10 miler with a hex key in my pocket and stopped and adjusted them 2/3 times until they felt right.

That's good thinking.
Did the same when I first started using them. Thankfully I have pretty normal feet (whatever normal is) so I needed very little adjustments. Cleats in facing pretty much straight forward, under the balls of the feet and I'm done.

Well, lets see you're middle aged and single but would like to meet a partner to share intimate dinners whilst discussing all the places you'd like to cycle to. You've had your mid life crisis and bought yourself an electric guitar, you can play most Status Quo songs and Wonderwall by Oasis. You have a good sense of humour and most of your friends think you're a nice guy.
And you have small feet.
