Now you need to put a youtube video up explaining how to do it so that others can figure it out.
I’m away to try and make the special tool.

Haha

You can get them on ebay for not much, but I found the one I got needed a touch of work with a file before it would fit properly. I'd probably get the proper park/shimano tool if I had to do it again. It can go in the drawer with the shimano and sunrace freewheel tools that I'm unlikely to ever use again.

no luck making a tool, needs to be very thin lugs and they just break off when pressure applied to them

Off to the LBS it is!

Thanks for replies

Edit is a left hand thread to remove?

Tried both ways.

In his video on how overhaul one it’s left hand thread?

I think I can see a hex key on inside

Possibly, just having a look at the cannondale parts website it does appear that the replacement freehub (now slated to arrive Feb2023 btw) is threaded into place.

Which reminded me that those two slots are actually for disassembling the freehub for service not for removing, so they are actually what you need really. A 14mm hex might be needed to remove the body though, and you may be able to get better visibility to service it if it is out.

It doesn’t look like this is how you remove.

Tried both ways

Not budging just breaking socket

Have you poked a big (10+mm?) hex key in there yet? From the left side.

I replaced a freehub on an Optmo, and 99% sure it was just a massive hex key to remove it, possibly larger than the ones in my standard set. Only scanned the thread though so not sure if you've already tried that.

probably read this thread and realised his friendly neighbour was utterly clueless!

at least the friendship, like the freehub and the wheel, are still intact:dance:
Or at least all the parts are in a convenient sandwich bag ready for reassembly over a beer.

Good lesson for me today!
I managed to remove the wheel, cassette, axle and removed and refitted the wheel bearing. Didnt have the correct tool to remove the Freehub, had it been my own bike I would have ordered the correct hex tool.
Local bike shop repaired there and then, £25 for part and £20 for labour.
All back together.
Thank you for all replies and hope I kept you all entertained today 😂

Edit this link is how this particular Freehub is removed, hence why I took the non drive side wheel bearing off.
