I've only got a tee shirt and a SS jersey. No choice.

Then again, I've swam in colder water than the Warwickshire rain.

Harden up and get wet!

BTW, Its pissing down at Gaydon, and its heading straight for Brum.

Went T Shirt and warm Jacket - Sweating me knackers off as it was sunny all the way.
You can't win with this English weather.
Did get soaked at work at 2.30pm ish though as I lhave no umbrella at work.

They must mean Farenheit, surely
No, they mean degrees C!

The long-sleeved base layer in question is really lightweight. When the sleeves are rolled up it is like wearing a short-sleeved one except for a ring of extra material round each upper arm. It's really versatile in changeable weather.

If I could trust the UK weather to stay the same for a whole ride, I'd probably be happy to wear shorts and short sleeves at about 17 or 18 degrees C, and if I was sure that it was going to be mid-20s I'd consider scrapping the base layer altogether.

I always wonder about the guys I see riding around Yorkshire in the winter in shorts and short sleeves - they always look really uncomfortable! Oh well - each to his/her own...

I also have to admit that part of the covering-up thing is because I'm overweight. I'd probably be more keen on exposing muscular flesh than the flab I'm currently carrying.

If I'd have worn leggings and long sleeves, ( from my own personal experience, so don't take this as instructional :becool: ) I would have sweated my bollox off and got dehydrated.

I find a fair ammount of windchill supresses the release of sweat, so fluids are retained in the system. Blood is pumped to the subcutaneous layer to keep my epidermis warm, which while being a 'waste' of energy, is one of the quickest ways to burn fat. - My secondary objective for riding 100s.
I tell you what - since I want to lose weight and I also sweat a lot and sometimes get dehydrated - I'll try a couple of rides with slightly less insulation than normal and see how I get on. If I get cold though, I'm going back to my normal system!

I went out on the Costa Blanca in March once in shorts and almost got frozen up in the mountains. The temperature on the coast was about 15 degrees but at about 800 metres there was a bitterly cold wind blowing. I didn't enjoy that at all.

If losing fat weight is your goal, sweating profusely is not the answer, as it is immediately replaced the next time you drink some water.
What you need to do is use energy. Every artery in your system is a small smooth muscle. They shift the blood round by peristaltic action. The veins do not but they have little valve-like flaps to stop the back-flow.
A fit person will have highly capillarised skin as well as muscle.

Every hair follicle in your skin has a small muscle to erect the hair – Arrector pili. Goosebumps. This happens when your skin gets cold.

I had some goosebumps this morning at 7 deg C and 27 mph roadspeed.

When you get goosebumps, those thousands of muscles are using up energy. You don't even have to work hard to make this happen.

For losing fat, cold is your friend.

If you really want to burn fat quick, get somewhere that makes you shivver.

That would be my house! I don't have double glazing or central heating and the gas fire only goes on when it really has to. Most people complain about it feeling cold here, but I think that they are used to having their houses too warm.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Some good value jerseys there - and a selection of long sleeve ones that look as if they would suit the OP - at good prices too! Worth knowing about.

Looks like some good value products there! I've bookmarked the site for when I next buy some new kit.

I'm not really a cheapskate.

I have a Solihull CC full zip SS jersey £33,
a Western Wheelers half zip SS jersey $70
and an old Peugeot road jersey with World Champ trim £75

I think I've found what I was looking for-the cycle chat long sleeve jersey lol
The reason for long sleeve in summer is because the surgeon who removed 2 BCC's (Basal Cell Carcanomas-non malignant fortunately) from my fore arms suggested it might be wise to keep them covered in future :-)

Was that a few months after Chernobyl.
That's when mine was chopped out.

That definately sounds like covering up is a good idea. The CC top is ideal but I don't know how available these would be maybe you could go direct to Endura and ask for something similar. I checked the make of my club long sleeve and its ReArtu, To me the ReArtu feels slightly lighter/ cooler but there's not much in it and I don't know how available that make is either.
