Yet another awesome @Hill Wimp organised ride to Rye. :notworthy::cheers:

I left home at the ungodly hour of 5.45am to cycle the 50 miles to Ashford. It was dark and it was chilly and it was misty. However, so early on a saturday morning meant the there were very few cars on the road which made the cycling all the more enjoyable.

It was a most beautiful sunrise. The low lying mist in the hollows giving the landscape that eerie glow. By the time the sun had come up over the horizon you could tell it was going to be a lovely day, and so it was.

New Romney still smelt bad and the wind on the spit and along the coast was a bleedin' bind, making it tough riding for people. But hey, the rain held off.

After leaving you all at Rye I turned into Military Road and was blessed with a most glorious tailwind.. the 6 miles to Appledore flew by without even touching the sides. On to Woodchurch, through Biddenden and then following the main roads to Tenterden and Headcorn where I took the train home.

I'm sitting here typing this as heavy rain is beating down..

Thousand thanks everyone for a brilliant day's cycling, it's always great to see old friends and make some new ones. And a massive well done to @Charlotte Alice Button for doing her longest ride this year without complaint, well done young lady, you were awesome today, despite all my cajoling and that wind trying to put you off. :okay:

Thanks.....I didn't put many faces to names :- $
The fact that many of us have different forum names doesn't make it easier, does it? I only seem to manage to add one name to the face per ride.

Anyhow, a lovely day out and all finished before the rain came - or before I drove back into it. Thanks again, @Hill Wimp for putting the ride together for our pleasure. It felt a bit like an end of summer ride.

Oh, and thanks to @Stephen Piper for gatekeeping!

Well, that was an unmitigated delight.
Thank you Hill Wimp for your impetus, and thank you Steve for your leading.
Exiting Ashford the way we did was an eye-opener for someone who has done this ride several times and, Lordy, there were more delights to follow.
Tim and I had a special adventure all to ourselves, called hunt-the-cyclists-whilst-wearing-inappropriate-footwear-over-challenging-terrain.
With no fewer than three groups of individuals claiming that you had passed that way, we figured it probably wasn't a conspiracy and finally caught you.
Only to find that no one was aware that we'd gone AWOL.
Lunch at Ypres Castle was very good, and surprisingly quickly served (except for Stu's, I think, I noticed he was one of the last to receive his)
I can recommend the Cesar salad - there was loads going on in that dish.
Oh, and the company. Fab Foodie, Hopeless, Hill, Deptford and a couple of others who, to my shame, names escape me - but we managed to plummet into talking weapons-grade rubbish in next to no time at all.
But that's just a reflection of the company throughout the ride!
I vacillated over the decision to ride back or to train it back to Ashford - eventually opting for the ride with Steve and Top Cat.
We weren't far into our return trip when I commented to Top Cat that 'This was definitely the right decision'.
I love the lanes that take you back through Appledore, and the best bit........
Was getting back to the station without hardly encroaching on any of the main roads. Just cycle paths. Thanks Steve!
Train arrival at St Pancras bought wet weather. TC and myself went our separate ways.
I scooted down through the city and as it was mizzling, caught a train home from London Bridge.
I would consider doing this ride again if: Less wind please and thank you. Less dodgy tarmac on the outbound.
I would consider avoiding: Full English breakfast at Ashford International. 2/10
You need to have not eaten for at least 18 hours to make this remotely palletable.
Lycra's in the machine on a 30º delicate cycle.
User10571's in the bath.
Chilli con carne on the stove.

Thanks lovely people, for a lovely day.

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
Thank you all so much for making today such a great one and coming from far and wide and through motorway diversions to join me on a poodle along the beach.

Special thanks to @Stephen Piper for all his help planning these rides and for doing all three with me through the summer.

Huge well done to @Charlotte Alice Button. Awesome achievement and just shows what you can achieve by giving something a go.

Massive apologies to @User10571 and @Tim Hall for my crap attention to detail and leaving you behind at Dungeness :shy:.

It was great to put faces to names and meet you all today and I look forward to riding with you again soon.
