Nothing wrong with one bike all year round, but I prefer to keep the grit, mud, liquified cowshit and road salt where they belong, under the mudguards.
No€, I have 2 bikes - my Ribble commuter / winter bike which sometimes has mudguards/sometimes not and my lovely white carbon Bianchi. I like having clean bikes and wash/clean my winter bike at least once a week, sometimes twice. But, I could/would not leave my good bike at work - too much risk.
