As per the title, what's obvious or stupid thing you did not know or hand to find out when starting back as cyclist.

First up: changing gear on a road bike on the 2300's, quickly realised how to how to change up, but took 2 miles to change down using the brake.

2nd How to pump up a presta valve, how was supposed to know to undo the screw. Thanks YouTube for fixing that problem.

On the first long ride I ever did I hadn't realised that when you're tired your head tends to drop. Ending up in a heap in a roadside gravel pit taught me a painful lesson.

I didn't understand about training. I thought if you wanted to go faster you just needed more will power.

Like if someone overtook you it was because they were more motivated, right then.

Same here on the gear changes. Decathlon never told me how to change gear. I was ridiculed on here for not knowing too but luckily I'm not sensitive to such comments.

I didn't like the gear shifters either to start with - was more used to rapidfire MTB shifters which I still think are easier and more intuitive.

I have gotten used to my Brifters now though and they are ok,.although I'm not too keen on that big push you have to do when eg you are shifting from the small chainring to the large.

Will get used to them eventually!
