The lovely things about doing hill sessions on an exercise bike in the gym are...

It is repeatable. Using a HRM or RPE, you can gauge your fortnightly progress.
It is in a stabilised temperature.
It is in a 'no wind' atmosphere.
You can make notes on your voice recorder as you go.
It is a short walk to the coffee servery.
There are staff present who are trained in Cardiac Arrest.

The gym bikes also have built-in Sky TV not that I watch it... I usually just stare out the window ;o)

I did the Eyemouth route on Sunday... felt great after it and throughout today, so I did a 30 min interval session on the stair climber this evening.
Spinning classes booked for Tues and Thurs this week.
Another hill session on the gym bike planned for Weds.
Fri - rest.
Hope to get out for a decent cycle on Saturday... not planned where to yet.

Agree all the above, but for me the fresh air, solitude and freedom beats all the above. At the end of the day most people who want to improve their cycling actually enjoy cycling. why deny yourself?

If you can make notes on your voice recorder as you go then you are not working hard enough, and if you are not working hard enough in the gym then you are either lazy or just there to check out the "talent". Seeing as we can assume that you jimbo are not lazy, and imagining you making voice recordings on the bike is not hard, then we can only assume you are one of these gym stalker types. The police will be round any minute now, you have at least 3 minutes, good luck
