Well thanks to Strava (well, just thanks to this thread actually) I dusted off my half-finished RWGPS-driven Veloviewer alternative and actually got some maps working. Hooray. Still a load more work needed.
I don't know what Wandrer is, but they have an update on the impact of the changes
https://www.strava.com/clubs/528504/posts/33606187
They're looking at adding alternative sources to do whatever it is they do
I use wandrer and like that it has some similarities to veloviewer maps. But instead of collecting map tiles, it tracks the % of roads you've covered in any particular area, and updates after every ride.
Tells me things like I've cycled 11% of all the roads in Lambeth (for example).
And oh boy did i get into a boring habit of cycling the same roads again and again, but wandrer tells me i'm addressing that fairly well, as 900 miles this year has been on roads I've not previously cycled.
Okay, it's data for the sake of it, i cant think of any useful application. I love it!
I've never used Strava.
Have I missed anything?
Yes, you've missed the chance to repeatedly say "That's the last straw. I'm cancelling my subscription"
Try a 3rd party one. There are several but I ended-up always using http://cycle.travel. Free. Creates good routes for cycling (as in choses roads well suited to cycling), Covers a fair amount of the world, loads of info/flexibility. Allows routes it creates to be manually adjusted. Allows you to select the surface (Paved only or any surface). Allows you to prefer official cycle routes, etc., etc.If Garmin could sort their route planner out I'd ditch Strava completely.

I've use it for quite a few years mainly on multi-month cycle touring trips (planning tomorrow's route each evening). Useful on camping touring trips as press a button to find accommodation close yo your route and another button to filter that to only show campsites.
Register (free) and link to Garmin a/c and use cycle.travel to create a route, press "Send to GPS" button and it arrives on your Garmin GPS (easy, one button press).
nb I'm just a user of the site, nothing to do with the site.

Only reason I use Strava rather than some other one - is so my wife can see where I am if she needs to know
Does anything else allow that??
Garmin GPSs do. I've not used it but I think it's called LiveTrack - You enable it, it gives you a web link you can pass to others and that links to a web page that displays your real-time location on a map.Only reason I use Strava rather than some other one - is so my wife can see where I am if she needs to know

If you are Apple or iPhone based just enable location sharing and your partner can use "Find My" to see where you are. I'd be surprised if Android does not have a virtually identical feature.

The garmin thingy automatically sends an email with a link to your nominated individuals when you start recording a ride. It switches off when you stop recording.
Not giving that to our lass, I'd have to stop popping into McDonalds for a coffee towards end of the ride.
