I'm sure that there are many posts and threads regarding this topic.....
Having been cycling now for a couple of months I have started to hear about something called Garmin.
I have been using strava and find it great as I can compete with my friends over certain segments.
Is Garmin a device or an app and how does it compare with strava ????
Pro's & cons ?
I currently use strava on my iphone

Garmin is a device. I guess a lot of folk start of tracking their rides on smartphones then upgrade to a Garmin as they are a LOT more accurate. I have a Garmin and it syncs with Endomondo and Strava automatically.

I use a Garmin Etrex 20 on my bike (I prefer a GPS that takes AA batteries). Then I upload the route to Strava when I've finished

The big plusses for the dedicated GPS unit to me are that it has a much longer battery life than a phone using Strava, and is designed to be waterproof and more rugged than a phone when you drop it. Also this leaves a fully charged phone in my pocket for emergencies.

Ah I like the sound if that, didn't know you could upload to strava with a garmin !
I agree that it certainly drains the battery a lot on a smartphone...... Very annoying !

I don't find Strava too draining on the battery on my Galaxy S4, I think it would be a problem if you were using it for 8 hour + rides.

Hi,

I have a couple of questions on my Edge 800 that hopefully someone can help me with.

1. I have started using Garmin Connect and can only upload activities manually. The activities are saved on the Garmins memory card (drive F when plugged in) in the activities folder. Garmin Connect can see the device, but doesnt see any files on it. No problem, I thought I would just upload from the F drive (mem card), but it doesn't see anything on that (16G card) either. I have to manually browse to the F drive and select the files individually. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

2. I have a few files on Strava that I'd like to transfer to Garmin Connect. Is there an easy way to do this? I cant seem to find anything about this.

Ta for any help.

Edit: Managed to sort out Q1 from the excellent Garmin site https://forums.garmin.com/showthrea...not-found-to-upload-Must-do-manualy-everytime

I have a feeling that Q2 cant be done

@Billy Chambers

For Q2 you can go to the activity you want to export on Strava and then click on the button 'Actions' then click the 'Export GPX' button. you don't need to be a premium member to download your own ride files, that's only for downloading other people's routes
