I had a pair of the (Planet X) 'Lobster Gloves'
They were initially awkward, but after a while, changing up/down on the STI levers was easy enough

Most days, unless it's really cold, I just wear a pair of ('medium density'/weight) thinsulate gloves

I've just realized that STI also stands for Sexually Transmitted Infection. I don't think Shimano used a focus group when they chose that name.
