My brother-in-law told me the site owners tell you that you can live on the site all year round. That is a lie as they and everyone else have to get off for two weeks as it's not supposed to be your permanent residency
He says local Council officials will come round the site every now and then and ask people to show them proof of their permanent residencies if they can't or say it's the caravan park they get turfed off.
What with this and the ever increasing site rates he's selling up and going to live with a family member.

My information is that sites with 'only' a holiday licence are selling caravans & lodges as residential ! Some councils are ignoring this breach of regulations because enforcement of the rules will result in people needing rehoming and councils do not have the accommodation available.
Don't get me started on the lack of social housing and the sale of council housing stock years ago.

You can see why people buy holiday homes, and not tin boxes in a field. I was dead against a second home (we are in the position we could have afforded one as our mortgage is paid off) due to the impact on the local housing economy, hence keeping the van at the time. I also didn't want the extra maintenance to do also, and it was enough with a static (gardening, repairs etc).

Quite nice now just rolling up at a hotel or camp site and unpacking with no 'chores' to do.

Nothing wrong with selling off the Council Houses, what was wrong was the government at the time (guess who) preventing the Councils from using the monies to build new housing insisting instead that they kept the money as 'Reserves' leading to the Icelandic Banking Crash taking all the money. :cursing:

Well I've bucked the trend and brought a static !

Yes I'm aware of all the horror stories - but it's in a part of the UK where I love some good cycling as well.

A couple of things:-

This is an investment in my well being. In now way shape size or form is it an investment in money terms

It's all paid for - it's a used one - but in good nick ...the price I paid is only what some people would pay for a car. I view it as the money paid, has gone - I know it will have nominal if any resale value by the time it becomes to old to be on the park

Rates are affordable - and the park is very basic.

For what I've paid I could have numerous UK or overseas holidays - but it's not an investment - it's just something I always wanted to do ...

A major health scare earlier in the year & Mrs KR not well ..it ticks a lot of boxes.

Another ' snippit ' from the HPAG (Holiday Park Action Group )
This references the take over of a Holiday park by the Hill Bros (usually very bad news)
They have issued a new annual licence and I include a few lines from this licence. (Join the group to read the full statement from HPAG.

The rest of that HPAG article goes on to point out that this contravenes consumer protection law. They also point out that licences signed under previous owners are legally binding and cannot be changed at the new owners discretion. Many ( most ) new owners attempt to void existing licence agreements and issue new ones.

Kind of get the idea that the Hill Brothers don't really care about laws in general, and the consumer protection law in particular.

Many of these owners have the same approach, the Hill Bros have acquired a reputation worst than most. " laws in general, and the consumer protection law in particular " are often run ' roughshod ' over. With no protection in law or enforceable codes of practice, many ( too many ) buyers are like lambs to the slaughter. Naive owners who cannot countenance a salesman telling them a pack of lies are sadly learning the hard way. I have no connection to HPAG ( apart from being a member ) however they are doing great work supporting owners with proper legal advice and bringing this toxic industry to mainstream attention.

That clause is probably so unreasonable it could mean that the contract is deemed unfair and therefore not valid
