I do short trips a couple of times a day and this evening as it was raining and my arse hurts from weekend fun   :stop: i decided not to sit down . The distance is about 1.5 miles each way with a break at each end so no big deal but enough to know ive done it without sitting down .
I cant go fast because of traffic but it seemed to me a good way to get used to the position and build up muscles for those hills .
Any opinions ?

Yeah its a good move. I started climbing punchy little 14% hills on my commute seated, then stood as long as I could, normally halfway up, now I'm just burning up standing sitting whatever. Kom either way.

One of my workouts involves working up to standing entirely on a gentle climb its mainly to teach economy when you do need to stand and find extra power ,and get you splashing the pedals beautifully

Good job on the 100miler again! What else is there left to conquer? Life is complete now lol

Be careful given you have a dodgy knee. Also according to my physio, can cause SIJ issues...not pleasant believe me!

About what. Google SIJ and cycling. Bad knee, better to spin slowly up hills than dance on pedals.

I also got knocked off while standing so I am rather more wary now, it makes you move side to side more than sitting down, which is not helpful when an overtaking motorist misjudges and gets too close

Have to say, that i control traffic more now than I ever have, ie the minute I glance back and see a vehicle I get a bit wider, swing my arm to 5oclock and downward in a wait there sort of gesture, followed by a thumbs up or a wave, and they are ALWAYS happy to poodle behind me for a few minutes until its decent to pass  Particularly at those bollards in middle of road at ppedestrian crossings. Control the road and ride in middle, because I'm not taking the risk by idiots squeezing past when it can be safer 30metres later
Definitely a confidence thing, I will get clipped one day. When this tactic fails, but its been good for me.

Standing up dancing on the pedals uphill is fine, until the chain snaps and your nether regions contact the top tube with great force. Fair brings tears to the eyes it does. Thankfully it had only happened to me once many years ago and as I since fathered two daughter there was clearly no lasting damage.
