Spotted for sale elsewhere: Vintage / Classic bikes, framesets and components

Dawes Supergalaxy, Truro (FB), £160. Looks like a pretty late one; bonuses are the STIs running a triple and arguably the brooks-esque leather saddle, not sure about that fat downtube's effect on ride though. Seems to be a smallish frame with a disproportionate stem and bars so a smaller rider would probably want to replace these with something more compact. Regardless, looks like a great budget tourer or utility hack for very little money

They’re a great bike, my brother and I did 1000’s of touring miles on SG’s back in the day, mine was stolen from Northampton town centre and my brothers ended up with a broken top tube. We bought both ours at the same time, both 531ST frames.

Yeah, they seem to be a universally-recognised, well-regarded tourer. They also appear to have changed a lot over the years but information on these changes and their effects seems scant... the generation pictured interests me as it's made of decent tubing (631 IIRC) and has STIs. I do wonder what the ride's like with that deep-section down tube though..

I assume yours was an earlier one being 531; did it have downtube or bar end shifters?

Ours had down tube shifters, Weinmann centre pulls and 3x6 speed sun tour with a strong light crankset, I changed mine all to Campagnolo Chorus, they were the days!

There's a rather nice late 80's or maybe early 90's galaxy for sale locally in very good condition with full stx running gear and bar end shifters but it's just a bit too much I feel at £200 considering it needs tyres and a re commission as not used for 10 years

A decidedly non-standard Raleigh Nitro MTB

I think a lot of us started off on Raleighs;

My very first ride was a blue & red Triang trike - !
Progressed onto a junior Hercules, then a Raleigh of certain age, but it suited me.
Subsequently 'inherited' my older brother's Rudge Clubman when he joined the Royal Navy. This one did me several years until I was bitten by the car 'bug' in my late teens - !

Looks really nice that - unmolested, decent spec from tubing / internally lugged fork / 105 and a nice stylish understated aesthetic - unlike many raleighs / other marques of that era.

From the headtube alone I'd peg the seatpost tube at perhaps 57-59cm... sadly seems that a lot of people simply pluck figures out of the air when stating frame and wheel sizes..

Nice price on the Classic, sadly 2 or 3 sizes too big . Think the fork tubes could be treated and then hidden under some old inner tubes but hard to tell from the poor quality pics...

Shame indeed - hopefully at that price someone might save it. While unlikely never original again, if not too bad the corrosion could be treated, polished and the forks re-painted.
