Hi all
Any opinions on the best SPD pedals for a road bike?

I've got the PD-M520 on my current one which I like, but wanted to know if there are any better ones.

I guess I could get "proper" road cleats, but I don't really want to buy a new pair of shoes.

I have m540 on my Cube and up until recently I had M324's on my commuter. I thought having the option of using regular shoes would be good, but found it annoying when using cycling shoes so now my commuter too has m540

Similar dilemma here regards putting something better than 520's on my bike, been looking at the xt's for around £45 but can't find anywhere with stock

XTR's are the best. But they are not price-proportionately better than XT's which in turn are not, et cetera, et cetera.

Yikes, they'd better be at that price. Still, in for a penny, in for a pound - or £72 in this case.
You did say the best, as pointed out about pricing there not £27 better than XT's but they are better.

I've got spds on my road bike which I use for commuting. New road bike ordered for club rides...I was going to fit 105 pedals spd-ls on the bike but having second thoughts as I like spds. I've bought new shoes with takes both....any real reason why I should ditch spds and go for spd-ls?

If you like SPD's then stick to SPD's. No reason to change.
