I don't get it...!

Surely, the idea is that the owner removes them so the would-be thief can't?

They land aircraft easier than parking a bike.
1 identify parking spot
2 check it satisfies insurance policy
3 stop bike at parking spot
4 find keys, remove lock, prepare and lick bike
5 remove helmet
6 undo lock, include helmet, relock
7 stow gloves
8 remove phone from bike, switch off bike app on phone.
9 set bike movement alarm, enable bike theft alarm.
10 check progress against parking check list.
11 note pedals are not removed.
12 disable theft alarm, disable movement alarm.
13 rummage in bag for plastic bag for pedals.
14 remove pedals and stow in plastic bag. Stow bagged pedals in panniers
15 gosub step 9, run end

I wondered about that. Whether they'd notice.

Also whether they might get removed or nicked, then I'm really stuffed.
We're way for Xmas period, and hotel has a lobby area I keep my bike. Forgot to lock it, and someone took it out for a ride thinking it was there for anyone to use. Now I lock and remove pedals every time.

Brompton fit some wider pedals to their new G-line 20” wheel folder. I think only the left one is removable. They are about £35. I’m eying up a pair for my 15 year old Brompton (the original folding pedal has a noticeably narrow platform, and I have hobbit-width feet!)
