Silly question, but does it ever get better ?

Third week in the saddle, have got the shorts and I'm still mincing as I walk. Lol

It will get better Gary, will take a while for your sit bones to toughen up, but it may be worth getting a fitting done just o check you ahve to the right size saddle...
(And while you're still mincing i'd advise staying away from Freddies
bar ;))

i does get better but i find that it never goes away. i always get a pain at the lower point of my back and have to stand up and stretch it out. it only occurs on long rides i do when my body is starting to seize up.
keep stretching your body after about 10/20 miles and it shouldnt hurt.

I have found that raising the saddle helped me a bit, and also pushing my butt back on the saddle when riding along the flat also helps. You may need to adjust the saddle height and position (i.e. forwards and backwards).

Following the return of the Fixie I confidently expect that the next cycling 'innovation' will be the call to "Ditch Your Shorts." Let's be honest - we only wear them because everybody else does. There's no reason why a properly acclimatised human bottom can't manage an 80 mile ride without wearing a padded lycra nappy. It's just that no one wants to be the first.

Initial saddle sore should subside after a while when your buttocks get use to the bike, if it persists for months on end you'll need to look at a new saddle. I get on better with a narrow hard saddle but some folk get on better with wider ones, Specialized do an interesting fit system where the measure the distance between your sit bones to get the correct width for you.

Weight has a lot to do with it. I've dropped 4 kilos this summer and the saddle doesn't hurt at all now.
