I keep finding these things lying on the ground in an isolated car park I often pass when I walk the dog, what the heck is it? about three inches long, looks like metal inside; I don't like to pick them up 'cos I don't know where they've been!

I tried Google image identifier; best match was 'grass'... I thought, yeah, but I meant the object on the grass.
