Hi All

Picked up my new bike last night, looking at doing a 30 mile ride next week (if anyone is interested).

Shall be cycling in the day, should I need some tights and a water bottle for my ride? what about a base layer? what do you guys wear this time of year? I have a budget of £40 to get some stuff for my 1st outing, then end of next week can advance a bit more money to spend. I am off work for whole of next week (school holidays)

I have a high vis waterproof jacket and spare tube I should get a bag for the saddle? im looking at buying this stuff from stores in Coventry.

Your help always appreciated.

I still wear shorts at this temperature so I'd stay with shorts for know. You may want a long sleeved top to keep the wind off your arms.

For a 30 mile ride trip you'll want so hydration so I'd take a bottle.

A saddle bag is probably the best option for the spares/tools.

Bag under the saddle is a good idea, can keep a couple of spare tubes, pump, multi tool etc in it and you know if you ever need it you have not forgotten to put them in your jersey pockets.

Guys

Got the triban 5 from decathlon ( not been on it as dark and bucketing it down) carnt wait to get out on it.

Got a saddle bag, two tubes, multitool, tools used to get tube out, high vis jacket and gloves.

What do you guys do bout a pump? 1 water bottle n holder and pump or 2 bottles and holders.... If this where do you put your pump? As I could find a small pump to go in my saddle bag.

Thanks for your info so far roll on Friday get some more gear!

I'll get some pics at the weekend my friend when it's light.

This is the bad boy on the site: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-5-road-bike-black-id_8239801.html

You can get mounts which fit under the bottle holder and the clip to the side, so you can have two bottles and pump attached at those points if you wish. I wouldn't worry about that now though but you will need a pump.

Some padded bottoms would be good for you, but for first ride, just get out there with a rucksack (or school bag) to carry stuff, PET bottle holding juice, you don't have to get everything at once and you won't with £40.

Have fun! ;)

Re pump, I have a decent track pump at home. And a small co2 pump with a couple of spare bottles to keep in the under saddle bag, for emergencies. Co2 pumps are great

Thanks all for your advise. I got a pump, not tried it on road tyres yet but I assume the adaptor is different as the valve is different? Im off to sports and soccer and decathlon on Friday to do some more shopping (poss new pump, baselayer and tights and two water bottles with adaptors (can deal with 1 for time been) for £40?)

Gonna attempt a ride if weathers ok on Saturday morning then a 30 miler Monday or Tuesday, maybe another 30 the following sat.

Pump should work on either valve type, you might need to turn the adaptor round. Should get all that stuff at Sports Direct for £40 (prob less) I imagine although they do seem hit and miss with what stock they have in.
