This evening I set about to try and stop my brake pads from rubbing the disc as they rotate. They're mechanical disc brakes and they function fairly well, well enough to lock the wheel up but still progressive however I was in the LBS and they mentioned the squeak coming from the brake pads rubbing on the disc. I started fiddling with calliper alignment and all seemed to be going badly and I soon realised I was in over my head.

So I continue doing minor tweaks and I notice a loose spoke so I go about tightening it and !ping! the bloody thing snaps off at the hub end so now I'm left with cack brakesand a bust rear wheel. Needless to say I'm taking the velo down the LBS tomorrow to get the pro's to sort out my mistakes!

I posted this earlier this evening, but it might be of use here, too.

Cheers Dayvo, I've not seen that site before. Good to know for the next time however I'm going to get the LBS to do this one. I'm really busy at work at the moment and I want to spend time with my 5 month old daughter when I get home so I've not really got time to do it myself.

Basically ^^ excuses why I'm taking it to the LBS, mainly me being lazy I think but I'm at the end of my tether trying to sort it out!

the LBS mechanic allowed me to watch him replace a rear spoke, i had watched it on bicycletutor but was still a little unsure.

having watched him, i left the shop with all tools and some spare spokes to DIY next time.

not sure about wheel truing though looked complicated, will need to work on that..
