I had a rather nice bowl of Bigos on Saturday at a continental market. Would probably be a good recipe for a slow cooker.
Cheers for the ideas everyone, i'll give some of them a go. I've never made a casserole before, but was thinking I could just brown off some meat and onions, shack it in the slow cooker, with a tin of chopped tomatoes, root vegetables and herbs (maybe a bay leaf?)
They are wonderful for curries. If I'm not in a hurry I'll use fresh veg and individual spices, but here is my works-every-time meal when I'm out for an all day winter ride on the bike and want to open the door and find someone has cooked my tea, even if that was me.Sounds very nice, I hadn't thought of cooking curries in it, great shout!
We used to have pork and lentil casserole:
saute onion, and diced up belly pork (it's like chunky streaky bacon, but uncured, and usually pretty cheap)
Bung in the slow cooker with chopped up carrot, and lentils (the orange sort), then pour in stock to cover, and cook.
Sorry it's not precise, I don't have the recipe to hand.
We'd have it one day as a casserole, with potatoes and a green veg, and then reheated the next night bulked up with some tinned tomato, and on rice. I guess you could add curry type spice if you liked.
