Cheers you lot. I've asked them to listen to the call where I was advised to change from small to medium. The guy went and asked a manager and they've agreed to waive the fee. The bike gets picked up Wednesday then they inspect it for damage/use and then if it's all ok they arrange building and delivery of a small. Should be a max of two weeks here's hoping. Thanks to you all for your responses.
I'd love a turbo trainer. Might be my treat for 2014.

Happy days, I'm chuffed for you and glad it's getting sorted.

Fair play to the shop in the end, but still would have liked this to have happened automatically under your circumstances.

Yeah they're saying now maybe I'm on the cusp of the two sizes. I've sorned my car so on shanks' pony or running to work for now. I just hope I'm doing the right thing but I'm literally only on tippy toes on the current bike.
Perils of buying online I guess

Sitting on the saddle I would be the same on all my bikes. They all fit perfectly so hopefully this is not making you think you have the wrong size.

Yeah I definitely see your point. I'd feel unsafe with just tiptoes on the floor and the seat goes no lower. I'm probably going to start with the seat lowish then work it up as I get used to the bike.

If you really aren't happy, pay the £50 for the smaller one (edit: seen fee waived, good stuff) . As someone who ended up with a chronic injury from a too big bike, I'd now go smaller if between sizes.

Or forget C2W and find a good deal on a 2013 model on interest free

Looks like the 2014 is £800 which is quite a chunk to spend if funds are tight especially if not happy with the bike. Also, make sure you insure the bike as if it goes awol, you still have to pay your company back

I would say in my slightly inebriated state that if the bike is sized up correctly that tip toes both sides whilst sitting in the saddle would be the best you could hope for.

My thinking comes from heels on pedals legs straight etc. Which I know before anyone points out is not always the correct way.

I would always go for a smaller frame and longer stem etc. Rather than too big a frame.

Yeah I know I should be on tiptoes eventually but just while I get used to it I'm gonna have my seat just a smidge lower.
Vickster I see what you're saying. The eventual cost to me will be at the most £500 and I get a tax kick back on it too. I think it's covered on my house insurance but will check

Just make sure you don't hurt your knees having the seat too low

An £800 bike, you may need to name it on the policy, check the T&Cs. I know my previous insurance policy had a £500 limit on unnamed bikes. Remember it's the replacement cost not the C2W post tax saving cost (you may also want to check what the end of policy fee is, if any. C2W savings aren't what they have been in the past)

Haha I can see a "moment" coming. I've never even had disc brakes before. Gonna be a steep learning curve. I could just use me feet hehe
