There's something fundamentally wrong, surely, when you lot of aficionados spend more time discussing how to change the rules and interpretations, than you do the actual game?
And Robert Kitson touches the affection for a game fast disappearing...here. Good old Dudley Wood!

Sure, but as Nicky says, ball out of play - clock stopped. Fans attending (paying £80 etc for a berth) would get more value for money,:okay: the 'bench' might have to be a bit more judiciously used (avoiding the 'interchange' principle of RL) and also none of the clock stopping would interfere with the referee's interpretation of time wasting etc, should he or she wish to change the sequence of events.
Players, even elite players, cannot play rugby for 80 minutes continuously. The game it too attritional and demanding for the forwards. It wouldn't make much difference to the girls as they just wander about chatting amongst themselves and making eyes at the crown for most of the match.

They are the ones taking the breathers...

King Andrew of Drippingham would be well chuffed...(he already looks a bit of a chuff)

And, to be 'serious' that is what I meant about the more judicious use of the steam rollers lined up on the bench.

England have more players than any other country. They are to be congratulated on their impressive victory.
Ah yes but all our best players are unavailable for selection. We don't have the foresight that the Scots do in allowing players like the Gray, Visser and Laidlaw to continue playing for the national side whilst plying their trade abroad.

What's the population of NZ again? USA must have a great RU side. And what about those Chinese? They must be champions of the universe.

I don't have a lot of sympathy with a journalist moaning about professional sportsmen being unwilling to offer the press quotes to take out of context and lampoon them with repeatedly.
Jones' covered that when he said he was going on media blackout. if he says something they moan about what he says, if he doesn't say anything they moan about him not saying anything... And if they are really careful with what they say it ends up being the usual clichés and dreary repetition of someone drilled to speak without really saying anything. No win situation unless the press and some some of the pundit former players/administrators (Woodward's a classic one) get off their backs a bit.

As the phrase goes: "Let the boys play". Too much time spent faffing over TMO decisions. Refs should back themselves to make the call on the pitch. Yes mistakes will be made, but that is sport. Use the citing process to pick up and punish incidents of dangerous play. Clear up the fog around "tip tackles" - the penalty given for the tackle on Cuthbert on Friday was ridiculous. How on earth you are now expected to tackle a 6ft winger running a hard line within the current interpretation on the law is beyond me. As for scrums - I want them to stay in the game as they are the game's heart and soul. A quicker engagement process would help though, plus if the ball is at the 8's feet just play the bloody thing and get on with it.

Other than that, I think this year's tournament is building up nicely. England v Wales is going to be a classic I feel. Way too close to call it at this stage.

Inevitable but pointless comparisons.

As for being bitter @Wafer? I suppose in a way I am. I'd love to have more than two proper union sides in Scotland.

Me too,but tribalism of the Border towns put paid to the Reivers.
The North just doesn't have enough talent coming through from the 2 biggest teams either. I'm thinking Dundee and Aberdeen FP's here.
As there is not many other "big" teams

Could say the same about your post too. The evil English will always have the population advantage, this excuses us for everything ever.....
That's been the case since the first international match in 1871, perhaps it's time to get over it...

And despite all that, Scotland are pretty close to being a very good team anyway. I hope the results start going their way more because it'll be good for the competition.
