Please excuse my ignorance but what is a SIM free smart phone?

Thanks Paul. I can never remember any of mine coming with a SIM card to begin with. I am ordering one off Amazon UK and just wanted to make sure I could use it in Denmark.

Not quite PaulSB, they are sometimes supplied with Sim's.

SIM free means phone is not locked to any particular network

Carphone Warehouse phones are supplied unlocked for any network but then the fecker locks to the first SIM you put in ..... Lesson learned! Bought the next from Giffgaff!

OK - nerd alert.

You need to check the specs. Different companies and regions use different frequencies, so there are different versions of the same phone for different markets.

Eg my current phone, purchased in the UK will use 4G for the Optus network in Australia, but will only connect to the Telstra network there in 3G or maybe only 2G (which has been turned off).

So you need to compare the frequencies used by the phone you are buying with the ones used by the network you are connecting to.

Edit: if you want to share the phone you are buying and the network you are planning to use it on, I am happy to check for you ... quiet evening at home

Samsung shops sell SIM free that can be used outside the UK.

The phone I've got has two SIM card slots and is unlocked. I first used it with EE, I tried it with plusnet and it didn't work very well, the data side didn't work. Currently with Tesco which is working very well..
