New Boiler install starting tomorrow: (And prep to do for that šŸ™„) means ā€˜playā€™ on the newly arrived today: Burgamont 8 Gravel bike - was limited tonight. However Iā€™ve unwrapped it **Removing: bell, reflectors a-plenty and safety / build stickers. And have also had time to fit a Charge Spoon saddle, DMR V12 Magnesium pedals, 2 x Carbon bottle cages and have a general wide-eyed nosy around itā€¦ā€¦.

Credit where credit is due: I voiced my disappointment over the delayed despatch of the Burgamont to Balfes bikes. And DXā€™s inability to then deliver in anything approaching a timely fashion.

They have today generously sent me this:

Not one to fritter money. I took the tough decision to re-invest 1/2 of that on these šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Fitted the 40c Panaracer GravelKing Tyres to the new and as yet un ridden whip. The light is terrible in the front room for photos; but i think in the daylight - and with selected other bright / lime Green parts fitted: the tyres will look fabā€¦ā€¦.

IMG_8134.jpeg

Letā€™s be honest: it canā€™t be worse than Black on Black šŸ™„

IMG_8083.jpeg

They were absolute twots to fit. Some reviews said they are not the easiest. Maybe this combo of tyre / wheel compounded that. Had such a job squeezing / pushing the tyre into the bottom of the wheel rim inner profile to gain enough space to then hook the last piece of sidewall in. Manā€¦..my thumbs were burning at the end !! šŸ˜³

Better pic of the lighter end of the Tan spectrum: sidewall below:

IMG_8138.jpeg

Also removed some QC / Data decals, fitted a chain stay protector, organised the Tool bottle, ordered 5 spare Impac / Schwalbe inner tubes for it, set up the bars, stem, the lever reach etc. Just saddle height to loosely set now - to finish the mechanical bitsā€¦..

Then Helicopter tape and mudguards fitting tonight. Just waiting on water bottle and a few bits after that and Iā€™m good to go šŸš“

Oh. Need to research tyre pressures !

Wahaaaaaay ! A day to myself on the Gravelā€¦ā€¦

Wheels out, axles and hub greased. Wheels locked back in and brake calipers centred. Brake levers centralised (Werenā€™t at same angle šŸ™„), lever reach levelled up for both too. Then 3 hours (?) cutting, shaping various width helicopter tape - to try to help protect the paint. All tidily radiused at every corner to stop it being ā€˜pickedā€™ / coming off when cleaning with a rag etc etc.

Probably fit mudguards in the Morning now. And spare link into the chain. Then weā€™re getting close [Just water bottle and bar tape: end sealing tape to arrive I think šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø].

Helicopter taping the underside of the downtube:

Wheels out and first part of inside the forks:

Radiused corners. So all tape goes on: and stays on !

Pop those bottle cage bolts out and stick some grease on them. Theyā€™re usually put in dry and are exposed to the elements

Iā€™ve fitted those and put my own bolts in (All mounting points just had rubber plugs in). And yes they were greased upon install. No bi-metal corrosion occurring here fingers crossed ! Cheers for the heads up though šŸ‘Œ

Made-for-model: Crank arm protector tape fitted thus amā€¦ā€¦

Decent product that went on great: and 100%!bubble free - with a little warmth from a Hairdryer. Cheap (Cheaper-than ?ā€¦.in this day and age) as chips šŸ‘

Mocked up the mudguards. Rear looks great. Front needs a bit of cutting for the front lip to clear the rear of the forks. And Iā€™ll wait until I have a helping hand to hold it still - until I tackle that !

And a few more bits ordered to ā€˜completeā€™ šŸ˜

OK, we get it, you have a nice shiny new bike and all you want to do is mount it on the wall, caress it's shiny frame and whisper sweet nothings into it's bar ends.

But it's a gravel bike, it needs riding. So here's the challenge, take it outside and find some gravel and it get it dirty. Just so we're clear and for the avoidance of doubt, here's an example I created earlier:

So be a good gravel bike owner and don't come back with more photo's until it's well and truly dirty, there's a good boy. ^_^

9 pages, 5 months and you muster but one solitary, belittling and condescending reply. Wow.

Riding yesterday. And what a muddy giggle it was. 34 miles of semi safe, clean fun šŸ˜

So spent a little time on the Burgamont today. Just awaiting on a couple more ā€˜Carlos Fandangoā€™ (Maybe colour co-ordinated if Iā€™m Lucky šŸ˜‰) parts to arrive. Then weā€™re go !!

Today I added some colour to the bar tape ends:

IMG_8311.jpeg

Installed a quick-link; ready for mucky chain changes / waxing (?).

IMG_8312.jpeg

Found an appropriate drinks bottle šŸ™„

IMG_8313.jpeg

Fitted the rear mudguard: using some protective tape on the frame that just happened to match šŸ¤£

IMG_8314.jpeg

And fitted some Ā£26, machined bar ends. Iā€™m now thinking Iā€™ve lost the plot at this point šŸ˜‚šŸ¤©

@sevenfourate I can only apologise for the way my post came across. It was not my intention to offend you in any way and I'm truly sorry if I have.
I thought that you were being jokey, but it is easy to mistake tone in online posts so I can see why offence was taken.

I generally get on pretty well with most people but over the past 17 years I have managed to annoy quite a few people on CycleChat, and a few people have annoyed me!

Shuv is clearly at the attentive and detailed end of the bike cleaning, setup and maintenance spectrum. I am at the other end - I only cleaned my bike today because the rims were in danger of being worn away by heavy braking on weeks worth of accumulated oily grit!

Oh I realise Iā€™m way beyond normal. Iā€™ve never claimed to be šŸ¤£ This whole thread is mostly a mockery of myself and my failingsā€¦ā€¦.šŸ˜

The Burgamont is the most Iā€™ve spent on a bike to date. And my OCD self wants the first ride to be 300%. And then some. I want no single, miniscule reason to harbour doubt. However small the detail. Itā€™s who I am. And I donā€™t pretend otherwise or apologise for thatā€¦..

Seeing as Iā€™ve no previous conversation / forum history at all with @chriswoody - most certainly not in this thread (?) the context, whistling emoji and ā€˜thereā€™s a good boyā€™ ending certainly left reason to take offence.

If that wasnā€™t your intention: itā€™s me who should be apologising. And I humbly accept - but didnā€™t require yours. Thankyou however.

And move forwardsā€¦ā€¦šŸ˜šŸ™
