Hi just wondering if I should invest in a turbo trainer for the winter as I'm not able to get out as much as I would like .not knowing a lot about them tips into which one i should buy or should I bother will be really appreciated .;)

Depends on whether you want to get bored out of your skull riding one. I can last about 5 mins max on one before boredom overtakes me.

If you don't think you'll be bored by one then by all means try it. It is mind numbingly boring though, just like spinning at the gym. Try setting it up in front of the tele, that makes it a bit more bearable!

If you want it for miles...don't do it to yourself, I only found my one more useful when I used to need it for specific sprint type training or one legged drills - if it was just to cycle, it's tough to keep motivated and it doesn't beat miles out on the road.

However, I have heard that rollers are better. Not used them myself so can't comment

If you are willing to spend the money then buying a TACX vr trainer will alleviate the boredom factor, if you are serious about maintaining/ improving your fitness over winter and put the hours in, well worth the money imo.

Although people bang on about just going out and riding through winter and mtfu why bother freezing to death, getting soaked, SMIDSY and despondent when you can follow a structured training program and be ready for the summer.

I bought a trainer. I have used it when I cannot get out during the day. Not happy doing training in the dark.

I popped on some headphones and watched 40 mins of James Bond while turning the crank. I train to a calorie target of 400, which is about 40 mins moderate effort.

Never tried one or wanted one. I see them as the same as treadmills, boring.
Get some winter tyres, lights and clothing, probably cheaper and definitely better

You can get trainers for £50 from Nashbar, clothes, lights and winter clothing could set you back a few hundred £££.
