Should I eat it

Was pottering about the fridge at work there like a pig on a truffle hunt as I'm a bit peckish.

Found a unopened packet of Tesco Finest Salami milano. Thing is, the use by date is 24th November 09. Now I'm all set for sticking it on a few oatcakes but the others in the office are telling me to not dare as it's nearly 2 months out of date.

My issue though is. It is dry cured meat in a sealed vacum pack an has been in the fridge since I must have bought it in november. Surely it will be okay????

I'll expect all the usual smartarse comments but in all seriousness. Should I just bin it or will it be alright. Hate wasting food

Salami is a preserved product unsliced. If it looks okay, eat it. You'll know on first bite if it's no good.

Bin it...... simple as. Non-proteolytic Cl botulinum (for one) loves VP environments.

Use-by dates are actually there for a purpose.

Absolutely no problem. Salami is a dried and preserved meat and will keep for months or even years. The sell by date is just for UK legislation - they can hardly put no date, can they?

Try a bit on the cat first. If it pukes/dies then you know it's bad. Only problem Mrs G will then kill you ...........

See. That's what my thinking was too. It's all quite exciting really. Given the fact that within a 2 min walk of the office there are about 20 different places to cure my peckishness and a 5 min walk and a couple of quid to buy the exact same although in date packet of meat but yet I have this urge to eat the dodgy stuff.
