As I know I will have to swap on the peddles on my (soon to be) newly acquired road bike [and I would like to be able to use my existing SPD shoes] does anyone have any experience of the Shimano PD-A520 Touring Pedals?

Hi Dave Congratulations on the new bike. i have A530 pedals which have flat pedal on one side which is handy if you want to jump on the bike in trainers if going shopping or whatever.

In heavy traffic I sometimes leave the left foot unclipped and use the flat side in slow stp start traffic.

Ah great to know. So they were the ones you used when we road together yes? They sound useful.

That would be great. I was planning on using my M520's (from the MTB) until I could afford the new pedals as well.

I've got A520's on mine. There's a review in the review section. Elegant pedal, which combined with the right shoe, will give a little bit of platform style support. Being single sided is no real issue and you can also use them with trainers for short rides because of their shape. Buy for main use, not maybe's.

A 520s on my roadbike..... can still wear the MTB shoes on all bikes without the hotspots when commuting. They're a great pedal for eh money (Pedal On have them in at 29 quid!) http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/shimano_a520_pedal.html

I've been looking for a replacement for my Time Cyclo pedals (now discontinued) and was going to go for either these or the Shimano PDA 600 - though they just looks like a more expensive version of the A520. Nobody seems to have a bad word to say about them!

Sounding better and better all of the time

As you've probaby gathered AFS, lots of folk use A520's on roadbikes, I use them on my Kinesis Gran Fondo with stiff soled BG mtb Sports. Its hard to say but I think they perform marginally less than my spd-sl and road shoes but there is a definite advantage in walkability, it my preferred combo for most rides

Well my mind is made up. I'll use the M520's from my MTB until I get the cash to get the new pedals (only a couple of weeks). I am looking forward to riding my new albeit a cheepo steed.
