I think as soon as they drop those silly indicators, I think there will be a big improvement.
Current Campagnolo order is Veloce, Athena, Potenza, Chorus, Record. Record is the top level groupset but above that is Super Record. Super Record special editions seem to crop up from time to time. Potenza is the latest addition and is intended as a direct competitor to Shimano Ultegra. You can still get Xenon and Mirage parts which are below Veloce, and Centaur which is between Athena and Chorus but stayed 10sp when they moved to 11.Would be interesting if anybody has the info on Campag and SRAM. Where would they slot into the pecking order, based on price?
They've binned off the Athena doubles in favour of Potenza, but then lowered the bottom sprocket to a 32 to give a very similar range. Obviously aimed at the sportive crowd who need the low gearing but don't want to be seen riding a triple. One other thing Campangnolo do over Shimano is an 11sp triple.
I think its just such a retrograde step, how many can't see the benefits of a close grouped cassette with low gearing, my gearing currently is 25-110" yet most of my riding is on the middle 38th ring with a range of 37 to 83" I would prefer a 12-13-14-1516-17-18-20-22-25 over the 12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-24-27 or the current 12-23 10sp the stepping after the 17th is just wrong. 17-18-20-22-25 gives better ratios than 17-19-21-23-25 especially as the ratios increase as opposed to decrease on 12-25They've binned off the Athena doubles in favour of Potenza, but then lowered the bottom sprocket to a 32 to give a very similar range. considering such things even for a second is the path to madness. While we're on the subject, where did they get the silly names from? What does Tiagra even mean? And why doesn't 105 end in -ra? It doesn't fit with the rest. And if it's Japanese, shouldn't there be an n between Dura and Ace? It doesn't roll off the tongue too well.
