I'm in sheffield, I ride from Stocksbridge to near the city centre (although not this week sadly  )
I don't see many others on my commute, but I see more cyclists close to town

There is a constant flow down Eccy Road from about 4pm it seems.

I don't commute but I will do so during school holidays when my wife is off work and I don't have to pick my son up! I'll be doing Hackenthorpe to the city centre, but pretty early as I'm a postie so should avoid most of the traffic.

General roadies though almost always say hello or nod, certainly above 90%. Maybe it's my hooky £12.50 Chinese team Sky jersey and legs spinning like a hamster wheel that makes me look all professional.

Quick question for my fellow Sheffield cyclists - what bike/tyres are you using?

I've done my commute once on a road bike (700 x 23c) and it was unbearably rough, despite that being the sort of bike I always used to ride. My glasses were bouncing around so much on one downhill bit I could hardly see. I'm now doing it on 26" x 2" MTB tyres (no suspension front or rear) and as I get fitter and more confident I find that even those lead to a pretty rough ride due to the awful road surfaces, and I need to spend a surprising amount of time stood on the pedals to cushion it - I tend to avoid main roads if I can though.

So, yeah - what are you riding, and how are you finding it? Hopefully none of you got too wet at about 4?

Hiya Kneesup , I ride a flatbar road bike now with 32mm Conti tyres for commuting , much more comfy than my drop bar with 23's . London rd still likes to try & loosen my fillings though

Rundle Road is my nemesis - what should be a nice swift run downhill is more aking to trail riding, and even though it's quiet so you can often ride where you like, there are no smooth bits to be found anywhere.

Not sure where Rundle rd is mate . But going down Gleadless rd in the morning is interesting , dodging speed bump , craters ( I mean pot holes ) & cars :-)

Genesis CdF. Steel frame, disc brakes and 30mm cross tyres so good over crap road surfaces, but still pretty quick when conditions allow.

I've got a cheap decathlon mountain bike with front suspension. The state of the roads put me off getting a road bike, plus I can only afford one bike
Tyres are the ones it came with, knobbly 26 x 2s I think. I ride through Wharncliffe Side and the roads there are terrible, its bad enough on this bus!

Anyone doing the James cycle sportive next sunday ?
Looks interesting but as i don't have transport I'd probably have to cycle another 15 miles or so just to reach the start lol.

I'm planning my first attempt at a 50 miler this Sunday instead, Rotherham up to penistone and coming back via Stocksbridge, oughtibridge etc, some nice hills up there ;)
