I wonder if Planet X, Ribble and countless other UK resellers of Chinese carbon do much R&D?
this post is about shangai carbon - if you want a discussion with anybody around safety, R&D, QA or beatch testing, then start your own thread and stop resorting to name calling in peoples threads, just because they have a different opinion to yours.............I'm not trying to be nice - I'm trying to be honest. Sorry if you are offended. The fact remains though that this is nothing to do with snobbery. I'm not interested in debating snobbery with you, but if you have any comments of safety, R&D, QA or batch testing, I'll happily get involved.

My son has two carbon frames (road & track) - both chinese made, but both UK branded and sourced from reliable UK suppliers. In the case of the track frame, the frameset is available direct from China for about £200 less than I paid. I went with the UK supplier for two reasons: 1. because I assumed that if the supplier was happy to sell the frame and put his name to it, then it will have met his standards and 2. if something ever did go wrong with it, I have a UK company to deal with, not a Chinese one, with all of the potential inconveniences that would bring. To me, that was worth an extra £200.I wonder if Planet X, Ribble and countless other UK resellers of Chinese carbon do much R&D?
Yes you are basically paying £200 for a UK warranty. In terms of R&D and QC etc very little if any over a reputable Chinese seller like Deng Fu or Carbon Zone. The R&D is pinched from the big brands and the QC is the Chinese manufacturer pumping out the items to the Chinese sellers and multiple resellers overseas. You might get the odd shark but it is not in the interests of the manufacturer or vendors where ever they are based to sell dangerous items. My son has two carbon frames (road & track) - both chinese made, but both UK branded and sourced from reliable UK suppliers. All that said I am not that convinced by carbon bars wherever they come from.
Hope you have a good dentist.
