I am thinking it might have been diesel too.

I once hit a patch of diesel on a roundabout on a motorbike, thought I was a goner but managed to get my right foot on the floor and hold the bike upright. Thankfully, the tyres all of a sudden found some grip and I stayed upright.
More weight to work with makes it easier to deal with. Not that easier is the best term. What sort of bike I'd imagine it to be a bit tricky with something with the heads down feet up r1 etc

I like Skol

A Minging Manc...
Another thing to be mindful of is that new tyres can often be rather slippery in the wet. Until they have bedded in for 50 miles or so it's worth being extra cautious.

Oh - and some tyres are just lethal in the rain....Zafiro's I'm looking at you......
This^^^^ or the diesel. I also got dumped off my new roadbike 1st time out due to a bit of damp mossy tarmac at the end of my drive just as I returned home.

I don't agree about the Zafiros though, done plenty of wet riding on mine with no problems once they had some miles in them and just bought a second set. I was amazed at how waxy the rubber of the new tyres looked and felt compared to the worn in ones I moved to my sons bike.

Its the mould release agent on the tyre.
