That's taking into account your Ape factor - if your hight is the same as you arm span then you are equal, plus or minus gives you posative or negative ape factor.

So effectively arm pit to finger tip should be the same as crotch to toe (round the heel) so will also be approximately in the right field.

Heel on pedal so when i clip in its just about right.
ive just got a new mtb with 170mm cranks..normally 175mm on them.
Seems better? For my leg length which is around 30..

the road bike is bang on with the heel method

Whatever method you use will be approximate, height, tilt, fore and aft but go for a ride with the appropriate Allen keys and fiddle until you get it just right.
I recently bought one of the seatposts below that allows for micro adjustment of tilt and it is a wonderful thing

They are handy but a swine to get dead level without a spirit level which makes adjusting on the fly a bit harder unless you can do it by eye ( i cant )
