Got a pair of Schwalbe Ice Spiker's - hopefully the act of spending far too much money on snow tyres will bring the mildest winter on record...to teach me a lesson.
Just got a pair of these as I'm off on holiday to Finland in a few weeks, where hopefully they'll see good use. Put them on last night and had my first ride this morning to bed them in.
But Jesus, they are total overkill right now. First off, they're pumped up to 60psi but still drag like knobblies at 30psi. The cornering on tarmac is also like regular knobbies, but more so. The racket! You sound like a Sherman Tank! I was turning heads on quiet roads at 20 meters. My chain also broke, which may or may not be coincidental with the rolling resistance...
Anyhow, I hope we'll have bad enough weather this year to justify them!
At least they're on the touring bike which can stay in the shed till it snows.
