Lies! It's all damned lies I tell you!
I think that I'm a long way off even considering racing, but a target, or goal does tend to drag that bit of extra bit of extra effort out of you. Mind you, when I review my progress on Strava and see that I didn't post a slew of PBs, it's still disappointing even if it was because of a howling crosswind in the wet. It's a double edge sword that app.
Actually, my favourite scalp was cycling around Rutland water on a hire bike with the four year old on a tag-a-long. I caught and stayed ahead of a couple with Specialized his 'n' hers everything, whilst in cut off cargo pants and Crocs. I recall that was the ride that persuaded me to buy the Charge Plug as it made me have look on here and realize how much more interesting (and better) things had got since I bought my old '99 Kona Blast.
The ride at the top of this thread has now got me looking a circa £500+ road bikes, so if nothing else, this place is expensive to be a member of. I've even listed some spare astronomy bits (and I'm a total clepto when it comes to astronomy bits) to help get the funds together faster. I'm worried that when I go into a show room and see the shiny, I'll start eyeballing spare loudspeakers to up my budget, but then that's what hobbies are about, isn't it? Irrationality for the pure unadulterated fun of it.
