No disrespect to her situation, but it is getting a bit much. I stopped buying a paper at dinner, got so sick of it. Can't even get away from it at home, one of the flatmates trying to talk everyone into emailling good wishes to her website.

Tribute to what? She made her living by being stupid on a terrible TV show for a few weeks and calling someone a papadum. I cannot understand the British fascination with dumbed down 'celebrity' popular culture heros (she's "one of us", she's "real" etc.). It doesn't happen in other countries. She has made no secret of the fact that she is doing this to provide for her children. Max Clifford ("her friend and agent") has been working overtime. The daily news reports have been extremely morbid. It's like: "Oooh, Is she dead yet?"

IMO it's the pinnacle of one of the worst aspects of our society.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for providing for your kids but I think you should do something a little more worthwhile to earn the cash. Or marry wealth.
