if you lock up regular at the same place, say college, buy a cheap and heavy duty motorbike lock, or even a big chain and padlock from a hardware place and leave it there 24/7

Superglue can be removed, or at least softened, with acetone (nail polish remover).

If you leave your lock unattended over night and don't carry they things and arrive one day to find your lock glued by the time you go home to get things it can be too late. Theives rely on the fact that bikes are left unlocked for however briefly whilst you go and get the stuff. Another horrible outcome is you cycle x miles to work find your locked jammed but don't have time to go home and get the stuff or another lock

Mild steel galvanized railings and posts are often easier to cut through than a hardened steel lock. Cordless disc cutters are pretty good these days. Be careful what you lock your bike to.

No, don't, because most chains - including the heavy duty 'mbike chains - can be cut using bolt cutters by hand. An 18mm D-lock will be more secure as it will require some kind of power tool to shift and can be made very difficult to remove if fitted properly without damaging the bike. Chains aren't very good at that. General use padlocks are also a really bad idea because they are weaker than pretty much any 16mm D-lock.

You can also register your bike via a website like immobilise (the UK national property register). If your bike gets pinched you can then flag up it's been stolen on the website - most of the police forces across the country use immobilise to help them track down property. Though i know the chances of getting stolen bikes back is pretty small.....
