I'm training for the London100. I ride a Specialized Roubaix. As I up the mileage I am finding the saddle less comfortable.

It is ok for 20 miles but after that I suffer. I'm looking for recommendations for a new saddle.

It's down to the shape of the individual's bum. I have a Charge Spoon that seems pretty much OK. It didn't cost a fortune either. Good luck

Edit: Mine has steel rails, not titanium, and cost about £20

A lot of people also recommend the Charge Spoon so seems like it's worth a punt. However, the most comfy saddle that I've owned came on the Triban that I bought. Most people have found that they couldn't get on with it but it seems that it fits my sit bones well! Guess it just goes to show...
I'd buy the Charge, try it and if not sell it on...you see them going for near their original price quite a lot so shouldn't loose out too much if worse come to worse

Specialized toupe or romin for me, I think the romin is designed to me more comfortable for long distances but I actualy think the toupe works beter for me..

+1 for trying a spoon, i just picked one up for £18.50 from an ebay shop to try and i have seen they go for that second hand so i thought its worth a shout.
What sort of shorts do you wear when your cycling and have you looked at your saddle set up as a few mm change can make a lot of difference.

I`m in the minority here I don`t get on the with the Spoon certainly on the fixed bike, been using the Boardman saddles instead, managed to grab two of those for both my road bikes.

If your existing saddle is ok for 20 miles, then it might be a case of just getting downstairs toughened up to the additional mileage.

Most of my rides are under 30 miles a day (commuting) so when do 50+ I suffer down below as not used to extra miles.

Brookes B17 standard does it for me on longer distances. After suffering on a variety of saddles the Brookes was amazing from day 1 has improved as it has moulded itself to my rear.

On long audax rides you see allsorts of bikes including lots of roubaixs and a big percentage of them use Brookes . The longer the Audax ride the more Brookes saddles you see.

Decent shorts make a big difference, i did a sportive a few weeks ago with 3/4 lengths which dont have a great pad, at the end my a**e was killing me, the next one i had my better shorts on, same time in saddle and it was night and day. Getting the right saddle for you is important but so is wearing decent shorts imo

I'm wearing wiggle own brand bib tights at the moment. What shorts would you recommend?

I like the dhb shorts, and have tried a few across their range, i prefer the dhb aeron pro or race shorts, they have a better pad than their cheaper ones. Assos and castelli shorts get great reviews but ive never tried them due to their cost

Thanks. Perhaps I'll get a pair of the more expensive dhb shorts for my longer rides. I treated myself to a Brookes saddle this morning. Having read a number of reviews and watched a few youtube videos I was able to convince Mrs Philinmerthyr that it was a worthwhile investment.

I fitted it earlier but I'm struggling to get it 100% flat. It is pointing up very slightly, the fitting on the seat post is not the easiest to adjust. I'll ride it later and see how it feels.

I have a b17 brooks on my tourer, took over 1000miles to break it in, but find it super comfy for the long days, enjoy

I've got 12 weeks to the London 100. At the moment I'm averaging 85 miles a week and will increase that as I get nearer to the ride. At that rate it should be broken in by the ride.
