Easy for you and the Mrs - who I gather from posts on other threads are both adept at the old hill climbing. I'm scared now as when I encounter a hill I go at snails pace. I'm hoping there will be other snails on this ride to keep me company. I've not done a group ride before. Will it be quick or are some of you a little slower? For example my ride today in flat Norfolk was 55 miles in a time of 4.18 average speed 12.7

I've been very snail-like uphill for the past few years so I will be slowing 'em down even if you don't!

TF and dr_pink have been on a few of my rides and they were fine. People usually climb at their own pace and regroup at the summits.

The hills are all fairly short, others will be slow, forum rides are slow, you are worrying needlessly, we will look after you. Mrs TF aka dr_pink on here will have done a 50 mile time trial the day before so she will want to be slow too. Funny thing group rides, the harder they are, the worse the weather, the more it bonds a group together, it will be great!

Presumably by saying we were fine we were behaving ourselves? Unlike a certain..........
They're not all that :reading:
person who likes to provoke dr_pink who then delivers wholesale slaughter upon him when the road turns upwards. Potsy, you are banned from this thread unless you come on the ride, for reasons I completely fail to comprehend dr_pink would like you along. Must be a soft target

Sound pathetic don't I. But I even hate holding hubby back when we are climbing as he's a skinny runt who can shoot up a hill as if he was on the flat. Thanks for that though. I'm looking forward to it again now. Oh and is there room for 1 more? My nephew is quite keen to join us but he's not a forum
member so I'll understand if not.

No problem there, before dr_pink became er, dr_pink she came on forum rides, get him to join, he doesn't have to post anything. Hubby sounds interesting, he can give dr_pink some exercise on the hills then if she isn't too knackered from the day before.
TF - you can move me onto the 'definite' list now as I've sorted out somewhere to stay . Please work hard on guaranteeing us good weather now!

Janeyb - you'll have me for company uphill, don't worry.
Can anyone do anything about the weather? Answers on a postcard if you can, can't remember a year quite like this, but as I said earlier poor weather rides often make you smile more, the great British mentality.

Can anyone who is definitely coming and arriving on public transport please let me know their earliest time of arrival so we can get a definite start time sorted out and I can meet you . If you have extra stuff you are carrying you can leave it at our house whilst riding. Bring a camera!

Eh? You must have been abroad for the past 5 summers then because this year is following exactly the same pattern - a really nice spell in the spring which gets the hopes up for a good summer, and then we get week after week of dull days, wind and rain!

In 2007, I waited weeks to get decent weather for a ride from Hebden Bridge to Coventry. I finally got a break in the rain on June 7th, got up early and promptly went back to bed for a couple of hours because it was so cold! When I finally got going, it was still overcast and chilly so I rode with overshoes on, shorts, leg and arm warmers, a long-sleeved base layer, a jersey, a buff round my neck and a gilet (plus a windtop for most of the 12.75 hours I was out). I still felt chilled at times!

The reason that I don't look like my avatar any more is that I normally put weight on every winter and then lose it again doing lots of long summer rides, but that hasn't really been happening since 2006 because we haven't had 'proper' summers. As a result, my weight has gone up and up, and my fitness down and down.

I don't like doing hard solo rides in crap weather and can't face the gym bike all year round so it has only been forum rides like this one and the ones that I organise that have kept me going. Trouble is - I can't get fit doing only one or two decent rides a month. I think I need to emigrate to somewhere with a better climate!

Anyway ... that's my excuses lined up for June 4th!

I still haven't heard back from Martin (Norry1) so I assume that I'll be coming in by train. I think it would be better for me to aim to arrive at 08:45 in case the train runs late. If I were delayed on the following train, then we'd be looking at starting after 10:00. Assuming that my train is on time, a start time from (say) 09:00 - 09:30 would suit me.

Colin knows why I'm not riding with you 2 for a while, hopefully he'll tell you in private :secret:

And dr_pink obviously has good taste, either that or she knows I make a great wind-break :bicycle:
