I realised many years ago that "New Improved Recipe" is a term that has several possible meanings

most importantly you need the criteria for "improved" to be defined before you can see whether it is a good things from your point of view

but it normally means that the recipe has been improved to improved profitability - rather than improve the taste

Fray Bentos pies are also vile now. Big Clive, the YouTuber known for pulling apart unsafe Chinese electricals, has tested one so you don't have to.

One of the very few good things about having been told to go on a GF diet is that I can no longer have a Fray Bentos Pie

My wife likes them and we always had to have a few in for when she fancied one

personally I prefer pretty much any other pie
well - other than Vegan ones or ones made with rotten milk (AKA Cheese - which I have mentioned before and is just plain disgusting)

anyway - we still have a couple in the cupboard and I will cook her one if she feels the need
but half of it will be going in the bin

bets place for the soggy thing!

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Their oxtail soup has gone to $hite as well.

Haven't bought Heinz beans in donkeys years... Richmond sausages are only good for their dripping.

I buy Tesco's own brand beans. They're actually good as is, but I've a thing for jazzing them up with spices, other veggies etc. If I want beans and sausages, then I'll throw in some cooked cocktail sausages or chopped up franks.

Yep, they've messed Fray Bentos pies right up. They were a childhood favourite, almost a treat. Now they're just stodge.
Perhaps it's me, perhaps it's my taste that's changed ?
Heinze baked beans too, wouldn't really prefer anything else, now it's Branstons every time, lovely flavour. I wouldn't contemplate Heinz now..

I love Big Clive's YouTube channel. A very accomplished electronics engineer as well as entertaining " tear downs " of various bits of electronic tat and random other stuff. I have watched a few where he sampled Field Rations from various armed forces, the one where he analysed the one from the " Scottish Army " made me laugh out loud 😁
